Not-so Breaking News

Submitted by Joanna on Tue, 2007-03-13 12:17.

  • Tupelo has moved its beer menu to all boutique styles, with only Heineken remaining on its menu as a mainstream drop. They also have the very tasty Nelson Bays Gold and Nelson Bays Pilsner on tap, with (classy glass) jugs for just $10.

  • Meanwhile the Wellingtonista's semi-tiki bar of choice, Imbibe is now offering brunch on Friday-Sunday. While there was no obviously displayed menu on the windows, the people sitting contentedly in the sun appeared to be tucking in to large plates of eggs. Hopefully they'll have more on offer for those of us less eggily inclined, because it's a gorgeous space and looks very nice and chilled out for a hangover breakfast.
  • And finally, the Dominion Post can as usual be relied on to run front-page stories about the weather in exact reverse of what's going on that day, so today's rain brings a 'Drought!' cover story. Hurrah!

$10 jugs!

Joanna's picture

Do you think that's cheap or expensive? They're not the biggest jugs ever, but you can get three and a half glasses out of them, I reckon.

Sounds cheap to me, but then the only time I buy jugs is at the Southern Cross where they're $25. But then, that's for their really good beers (like Bookbinder), and the pitchers are eNORmous.

Jessie's picture

Very cheap! Jugs at Malt are $20. Although they're rather big.

Yeah, they need to talk rain a bit more, talk drought and what do we get?

I need rain. Lots of it. Although not necessarily here. I need it there.

Our skimpily clad weather pixie seems to be getting lots - where is she supposed to be?

Hadyn's picture

$10 jugs are cheap. Especially filled with Nelson Pilsner.

I just wish someone in NZ would sell Flying Dog Ale.

Llew, the pixie is allowed to be scantily clad, it's 21 degrees.

Any idea whether they do wheat beer?

Oh, and while Imbibe has plenty for us eggophiles (and blackpuddingophiles), there's the usual pancakes, muesli etc on offer as well.

*Coughs* Very happy that my superwonderful pic of Tupelo gets a wider audience, but the Creative Commons license on that photo is that you ought to provide attribution when it's re-used. Does Wellingtonista's CMS provide you with [cite] tag? ;)

llew's picture

It says "stolen from flickr" is that not enough?

and a click-thru to the photo on flickr!

but seriously, full attribution can be added to the post. How would you like it phrased, Andrew?

Hi James,

Yeah - thanks for the click through, and the attribution at the foot of the post is fine.

Didn't mean to be snarky about it at all, but there's not much point putting a CC license on photos instead of an 'all rights reserved' one if the CC terms aren't then respected. I've already had a few of my photos on flickr re-used without people being willing to share a copy with me of how my work has been used by them (*coughs* curator of the Len Lye Collection at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery), and it's little dispiriting, you know?

But I am grateful to Jo for actually letting me know that she'd used the image in the first place. :)

Andrew if i knew how to even post images here i would fix it.

Ah Sue, thank you! I'm sure you could get crafty with the system behind Wellingtonista somehow!

Hey that Imbibe logo looked familiar to me and my deeply Canadian heritage:
