Rare treat for Wellington

Submitted by Anna on Wednesday, 23 Jul 2008.

I'm completely gobsmacked. Just got a little sneak live preview of the one and only CW Stoneking (Myspace) who plays the Mighty Mighty tonight.

I advise you to fight your way to the door. Wellington's own Slim Chants will be kicking things off from 9pm and Palmy's howing wolf man Boss Christ will take things into the night...... but this CW Stoneking.

I think I'm in love.

Yep, he's pretty cute alright. How's the music sound like? Any good? ;)

He's way cool. I saw him as the support act for Madeleine Peyroux early this year (she was very disappointing but it might've been the venue). Enjoy.

I loved CW's set. but I hate the crowd.
at least 98% talked incessantly through his set, which really got on my tits.
I like to go out to see a band to listen to music. not to be seen.

Yeah there was a bit too much standing around nodding sagely for my liking.

Dance or show some enthusiasm, don't just stand there looking cool you pillocks.

It would have been awesome to have had him teleported to some pub in say, Wairoa, and seen the response.

What's wrong with standing still at a gig? Does not dancing imply you're not enjoying it?

Not necessarily, each to their own and all. It was more the percentage of people "just" standing, I guess not dancing is catching just like dancing is catching. You will always get drunken fools like me who will dance regardless.

I may have overstated it a bit, I think I just felt like typing pillock.

Depends on the gig. At a quieter sort of concert (acoustic, jazz, ambient and some other genres) then standing around nodding sagely would be de rigeur. But going to a psychobilly, electro, punk, drum & bass etc etc gig and not dancing would seem to either missing the point or an indication that the act isn't quite firing.

Well this gig was one man with a guitar and seemed much more appropriate for swaying not crazy dancing. Plus I think to each his own, as long as you're not yapping in my ear during a quiet show, who am I to tell you how to enjoy something you've paid to get into?
More annoying for me at this gig (apart from the mighty blindfolded lame shark jumping fest prior to the event) was the girls behind me (and I was right in the front) giggling and saying loudly how they couldn't "find the beat" cos they wanted to dance. Lady if you have to ask, etc.

Damn, I hope that girl was not me ;-)
but seriously, I take your point.

One of my workmates saw this and was raving 'bout him. She also mentioned there was some baptism going on in the Bucket Fountain! Quelle Wellington!
