Ray of Light
Sure, I'm a nasty little insect that brings doom and pretense, but I like to think I also bring some small rays of sunshine.
At a recent outing to the new Wagamama (along with hundreds of other Wellingtonians I had a wonderful experience. As a quick aside Wagas was just how I remembered it from London (when I was a Anglo-fly-le, ha ha) aside from having more space here to swing a cat in.
But the real story begins when my main was late coming out, however, the floor manager more than made up by:
- spotting the fault in the line order in the kitchen and fixing it, and
- offering free extras - drinks and more starters to tide us over for the two extra minutes it took for the mains to come out
Hopefully this isn't just new-restaurant diligence. Well done Wagamana!
"A bit later the waitron came over and said..."
Was that the old Waitron 2000, or the new and improved Waitron 3000X?
Went there last night. Mains were just like in London = fantastic.
But my big gripe was (like Robyn) the desserts - or lack thereof. And the portions of the desserts that they did have and tried serving us for $9 so were ridiculously small that we complained.
Wagamama, sort out your dessert supply chain and portion size. You have been warned!
Interestingly, Wagamama didn't used to do desserts. I assume it was introduced due to popular demand, but their dessert menu does feel like an after-thought.
My piece of chocolate wasabi cake was quite big and I didn't think $9 was out of line for it, given many many places will give you a lot less for a lot more.
had the best lunch there yesterday, and the service was fab.
using my ebook coupon made it even more lovely
salted edamame will never do it for me in future i will always be craving chili garlic
YUM!
and how nice to eat at a lunch place where they don't try and kick you out the second you finish your plate

I had a hilarious experience at Wagamama on its opening night.
I wanted to order the cheesecake for dessert, but they were all out so, oh well, I ordered the banana split instead.
A bit later the waitron came over and said they were all out of bananas, so I changed my order to a bowl of ice cream, and they gave me a free coffee for the inconvenience.
But then things got a bit weird. When our desserts came, I found myself with both the bowl of ice cream and a banana split.
Fortunately only the ice cream was charged for, and my posse was happy to help eat it.
But, yah, it's a fun environment (albeit a little food-courty at times), good service, and it'll be even better in summer.
