Who Watches the Watchmen? WE DO!
Superhero comics fans should press their best unitards this week in preparation for Armageddon, and likewise indie and underground comics fans should pull out their copies of Hicksville for signing, as the NZ Comix Weekend is setting up shop on the 19th-20th April at the Southern Cross, Graphic and Spacething.

There are talks, jams, stalls, seminars and exhibitions - providing a homegrown counterpoint to the big budget pulp culture-fest over at the TSB Arena (although some of the Comix Weekend artists are also represented at Armageddon)
Details and links after the jump...
The Comix Weekend has been quietly running alongside Armageddon since 2005, organised by a loose collective of artists who gather in Wellington for a couple of days of exhibitions, comics selling and creating, talks and networking. As well as the stalls, jams and talks at the Cross on Saturday and Sunday, Cuba Mall comic shop Graphic hosts an exhibition/launch for comic artists Robyn E. Kenealy, Claire Harris and DRAW’s new work, with the opening party kicking off the weekend at 5:30pm Friday. This year newcomers on the creative space scene, Spacething, join the Comix Weekend with an exhibition opening party at midday on Saturday, and launch their comic and zine lending library on Sunday - both events will be held at their cosy nook at 171 Adelaide Rd, Newtown.
Visit NZ Comix Weekend for a timetable of events and venue information, and look out for talks by local Mat Hunkin (creator of the Comics on the Fringe daily street strips)and Dylan Horrocks (of the previously-mentioned Hicksville - he's big in France!).

OMFG! What Jo said...
( although, to be honest I'm a little scared to think too hard about how well Frankman is doing 12 years later... O_o )

Interestingly I found this post from Stephen about last year's event, and with a hint of synchronicity he mentions a Frankman poster... I've just taken over editing and compiling the VBC-affiliated street press/gig guide 'Bandwagon' and am proud to say I scored a coup - new Frankman comics every week! This week's instalment is titled "the last time I got pregnant ok" and it's just as awesome as the Frankman comics of old.
Pick up copies in the cbd and Newtown at SFBH, Mighty Mighty, Matterhorn's alleyway, Graphic, The Film Archive and so on.
