So this year we have only four teams, which means that the league will play out over three action-packed weeks starting at 6.30pm tomorrow night.

Round one (September 25):

  • Bowlingtonista vs. Furry Feral Black Balls of Fury
  • The Mighty Boost vs. The Purple Cobras

Round two (October 2):

  • Bowlingtonista vs. The Mighty Boost
  • Furry Feral Black Balls of Fury vs. The Purple Cobras

Round three (October 9):

  • Bowlingtonista vs The Purple Cobras
  • The Mighty Boost vs. Furry Feral Black Balls of Fury

Results will be posted as we go along, according to the aforementioned points system. Woo haa!

Bowling league is back: bigger, better and braver than before!

I love ballsOh my stars, we are so very excited to announce that the Wellingtonista Bowling League for 2008 is about to start. Next Thursday September 25 to be exact, at 6.30pm at The Lanes on Wakefield Street. What does this mean for you/your organisation/social circle? It means that you have to find three friends to form a team (or more, members can rotate in and out at will), come up with a name and register here before next Tuesday 23 September so we can come up with a table and you can start insulting your competition.. The league will last for as many weeks as there are teams (with a maximum of eight teams due to the space I’ve booked), minus one, as we’ll play round robin.

The rules on the night are as follows:

  • If at the end of the game your team’s sum total (total of all four players) is higher than your opposition’s then you get four competition points.
  • If your team consumes more than four beverages (or averages more than one per player) you get a bonus competition point
  • The team with the highest sum total on the night gets an extra bonus point.
  • There will be one random league point awarded on the night in an area of our choosing. The first one will be for the best-dressed team.
  • Trash-talking AND fraternising with the enemy are both highly encouraged.

So if you booze up and roll like a god your team could come away with seven points.

We really did have a tremendous amount of fun last year, made new friends, business contacts and drinking buddies, so what are you waiting for? Sign up already!

The Wellingtonista Bowling League Draw

It gives us tremendous pleasure to announce the draw of our Bowling League. Brave (but foolish for thinking they could possibly beat us) teams from Xero, Silverstripe, Click Suite, Clemenger BBDO and the fantastically named Bowltron will be taking part and therefore get massive karma points.

SEE THE FULL DRAW HERE.

Round 1 will be Tuesday 24th at 8pm at The Lanes on Wakefield St.

The rules on the night are as follows:

  • If at the end of the game your team’s sum total (total of all four players) is higher than your opposition’s then you get four competition points.
  • If your team consumes more than four alcoholic beverages (or averages more than one per player) you get a bonus competition point
  • The team with the highest sum total on the night gets an extra bonus point.

So if you booze up and roll like a god your team could come away with 6 points.

Expect to see many people at Clemenger crying on Wednesday morning after the Bowlingtonista give them the thrashing of their lives. Hurrah!

Announcing the Wellingtonista Quiz League

It’s oooooooooooooon! We are very happy to present you with a starting date for the Wellingtonista Quiz League – Tuesday July 24. We’d love you to participate. Not only will you get to flex your brain muscles and check out the quiz nights at four different pubs, but you’ll also get to network with likeminded people and have a lot of fun. So now you need to find yourself three friends, send us an email to wellingtonista @ gmail.com or leave us a comment here with your team name, and sign up to the mailing list for Quiz League announcements which may look suspiciously like the Bowling League mailing list. We’ll let you know which inner-city pub we’re starting at closer to the time.

After the break, the rules. Any questions?

Early warning: The Wellingtonista Quiz League

I’ve been rather quiet on the Wellingtonista front (well, for me anyway) because I’ve been busy finishing up my contract and looking for a new job (anyone who knows of a new home for a person with tremendous writing, editing and communication skills who knows the internets like the back of her hand should get in touch), but when I come back from a tropical holiday, the Wellingtonista will be very very excited to announce the start of the Wellingtonista Quiz League.

This will be held a different inner-city pub each week on Tuesday night for four weeks, and point totals is what you’re after. So start assembling your team of four now, and look out for more details in the second week of July.

You will want to enter this, no one who participated in the Bowling League regretted it, and I’m sure they would happily furnish you with testmonials about the awesomeness that is participating in a Wellingtonista event!

Bowling: It’s OOOOOOOOOOON!

We are super pleased and excited to announce that the Wellingtonista Bowling League is officially a happening thing. Game nights will take place once a month until the round-robin is played out. The first night will be Tuesday 24 April at 8pm, so that we can all recover the next day.

There will be four people to a team, and your website/organisation may enter more than one team if you like. There will be a trophy. Register your team here in the comments, or email the.wellingtonista @ gmail.com before next Wednesday 18. We’ll be bowling at The Lanes on Wakefield St, and it’ll cost probably $10 per person per game. Plus the drinks you will want to buy us.

Please do participate. Or are you scared that we will KICK YOUR COLLECTIVE ASSES? Cos we totally will.

Tid bits and tasty things

  • If you’re in town before 6pm today, sneak into the Software Freedom Day at the Michael Fowler Centre for a free Havana coffee. Don’t tell them that I sent you though.
  • The previously mentioned Kayu Manis (you’re a manus!) – the Indonesian/Malaysian restaurant on Cuba Street is now BYO, which makes its $18 mains much more palatable. Also, the food is super fresh tasting, and the atmosphere is much nicer than your standard Malaysian joint, so we suggest that you check it out.
  • The frequently apostrophe-catastrophic Electric Avenue now sports a banner advertising its music quiz on Thursday nights as being the only music quiz in town. Apparently Abel Smith Street, home to the music quiz on Thursday nights at the Cross is a suburb.
  • Radio Active 89FM’s Handle the Jandal, the nationwide DIY music video competiton, is back for 2008 and is calling for entries for this year’s competition, to be held November 27 at Wellington’s St James Theatre. Go to Radio Active’s site for more information.
  • Don’t forget to sign up for Bowling League.

Putting out feelers: the Wellingtonista Cup

Not that we’re trying to get all Gawker on you or anything (or are we?) but the Wellingtonista would like to set up a league. A bowling league, if you will. Details will be confirmed later, but there would probably be a round-robin of sorts, and much booze would of course be involved ( because have you ever seen any of us out in public without a drink in our hands?), and as we’re not famous for our love of the ‘burbs, chances are the venue will be right in town at The Lanes.

This post is going out to see if anyone would be interested in taking us on. It would be great if teams had some sort of affiliation, no matter how loose it was (although ring-ins would be fine) and it would be best if teams had a place on the web in which they could let their fingers write cheques that their butts couldn’t cash in terms of trash-talking about their opponents. We’re envisioning competing against teams from other blogs (or blogs + notorious commentators), or web companies, or media outlets. Are you keen?

Fast, fresh, tasty and kind of awesome

On Thursday night, our old bowling league arch nemisisisis buddies ClickSuite  launched a new iPhone and iPad app called Fast, Fresh and Tasty. We went along because we were promised food and drink, and you know how good that is at getting us to leave our houses, but we were pleasantly surprised by the app itself. Fast, […]
