3 things Miramar needs

  1. Mesh network
  2. The cinema open
  3. Statues of Pillars of Argonath either side of 'the cutting'

Read why ... Mesh network Drop me a line if you're interested in helping make this happen (miramar.mike@gmail.com). There are already some influential and experienced people on board but the more the merrier. The discussions are at a very early stage and whilst there is a lot of cross over with TheFreeNet - Aotearoa it might not be exactly the same as that model .. but it might. Oh, and if you're in Maupuia (you know who you are) then we'd love to involve you! Cinema opening Hmm, seems that this might not happen until certain owners get some spare time. I'm thinking in a few years then. Darn! Statues of Pillars of Argonath either side of 'the cutting' This is NOT my idea - total credit to Duncan! But what a welcome into Miramar ("Wellywood") it would be. And every flight into/out of the airport over Evans Bay would have people staring out of the windows totally taking their minds off the slight breeze they're bumping their way through. Duncan has promised a Photoshop picture to give you an idea of how cool it would be ... watch this space. In the meantime ... how can this be made a reality? Again, email me (miramar.mike@gmail.com) if you have any idea on who, how and when!

Weren't they going to put a big statue of Peter Jackson out there? Like a REALLY big one.

The statues would be way better than the possums someone keeps nailing to the Keep Miramar Possum Free sign (they were there again on Saturday for about 3 hours until someone took them down). I vote yes. Where do I vote?

Not heard of a statue of PJ and I vote no for that.

Heh. Possum nailing, a Miramar Peninsula sport for those with the time and attitude.

Vote Yes by sending the URL to this post to all your mates and get everyone talking about it - go on, it'll be awesome!

I've only just moved to Miramar, and I think that having statues of Pillars of Argonath either side of the cutting would enhance the entire experience for me...

I heartily agree on reopening the cinema. It's the only location that would tempt me back in to Exhibition.

Evidently, though, it was a bit of a vanity project for Jamie Selkirk's wife and thus not a huge priority. But the earthquake strengthening has all been done.

This looks like a pretty good place to start the Pillars of Argonath for Miramar Cutting campaign.

I say: dare to dream.

Sam - set it up and let's all sign it!

Aren't we kind of over the whole Rings thing by now?

i think not
then again i'm the nerd who studied tolkein at uni ;)

plus hobbit fever will be kicking off soon

hey why not lyall bay??? i live in lyall bay. passed by the movie set one time in miramar. i vote on putting peter jackson's statue in miramar. will be a good fun. he he he

I saw some construction activities in the capitol court building (the old cinema building). PCB (Peter Camp Builder) was dropping some heavy construction steel frames. Could this mean they are starting to build the new cinema? Exciting!

Indeed they are (so my secret squirrely sources tell me)

For ten years nothing happens, then when somebody finally gets their act together, everyone jumps up to knock their plan down with better ones. Where was this petition after the Return Of The King parade? Why do it now, just when there's some movements? You think this is positive action?

We'd all be better off by you putting all this energy behind the Wellywood sign so at least we have something. Anything!

Yes, it's nice to dream, but the Argonath will never be built. There's simply no way the Tolkien Estate would allow it, apart from a hundred other good reasons.

As for the cinema opening, check my blog entries about that - Jamie Selkirk promised in September 2009 that work would start this year, and it has. If everything is still on track, the first movie should be shown there by September this year.
