somes islandThe ongo­ing effort by the Depart­ment of Con­ser­va­tion, the Coun­cil, and ordi­nary peo­ple like you and me to regen­er­ate native flo­ra and fau­na around the city con­tin­ues next month with a bit of a weed­ing mis­sion out on Somes Island (aka Matiu).

DOC are call­ing for vol­un­teers for a big weed-bust­ing day on Sat­ur­day March 19 (Sun­day 20th is the wet-day reserve). DoC will cov­er trans­port out to the island, and be putting on lunch. So, if you haven’t had a chance to get out to the preda­tor-free jew­el of the har­bour yet, here’s your chance to do so while doing a good deed at the same time.
