somes islandThe ongo­ing effort by the Depart­ment of Con­ser­va­tion, the Coun­cil, and ordin­ary people like you and me to regen­er­ate nat­ive flora and fauna around the city con­tin­ues next month with a bit of a weed­ing mis­sion out on Somes Island (aka Matiu).

DOC are call­ing for volun­teers for a big weed-bust­ing day on Sat­urday March 19 (Sunday 20th is the wet-day reserve). DoC will cov­er trans­port out to the island, and be put­ting on lunch. So, if you haven’t had a chance to get out to the pred­at­or-free jew­el of the har­bour yet, here’s your chance to do so while doing a good deed at the same time.
