Man­dat­ory: Still Wel­ling­ton’s best loc­al menswear empori­um after all these years, Man­dat­ory con­tin­ues to deliv­er fresh yet clas­sic clothes with a dash of ima­gin­a­tion. 

Miss Demean­our: Main­tain­ing a splash of street­wise gothy atti­tude amidst a gentri­fy­ing Cuba Street, Miss Demean­our actu­ally caters for a wider range than one might think. The Work­shy T‑shirt range sparks loc­al debates with its Wel­ling­ton-spe­cif­ic slo­gans, from the infam­ous “New­town: It’s a bit shit” to “Thorndon: Look­ing down on Wel­ling­ton since 1840”.  

pixel inkPixel Ink Fash­ion: A New­town favour­ite, Pixel Ink Gal­lery branched out into Cuba Street earli­er this year with a fash­ion boutique. Since then it’s always a delight to pop in and see what new out­wear is in store. Plus there are rumours that the back space might be expan­ded into a tiny gal­lery area in 2010. 

Madame Fancy Pants: The one and only fancy song­bird Claire Terry brings the classy cute to Cuba with slip­pery silk, delight­ful present sized good­ies, invest­ment piece hand­bags and of course her own often imit­ated, nev­er beaten range of jew­ellery. She man­ages to find time to be a truly charm­ing and gusty chanteuse to boot. Kia ora, Madame. Kia ora. 

Swon­der­ful: This moth­er and daugh­ter run ven­ture has been thriv­ing since its move from Brook­lyn to Vic­tor­ia Street in cent­ral Welly. Stocked with cute frocks and oth­er super girly clothes, Swon­der­ful has their very own label, Paper­cup, to show off as well. They also have plenty of jew­ellery, sta­tion­ery and the odd zine to fos­sick through.
