Catch of the day

Piscivores rejoice! A couple of local fishing boats have started to dock at Chaffers Marina on Sundays and are selling their wares direct to the public, and it will make a nice complement to the meat & veg at Waitangi Park market. The species on offer no doubt depend upon what's caught on the day, but today's offerings ran from groper steaks and blue warehou to octopus (for those with a tentacle fetish) and kina (for those who like it spiny and slimy).

Are the prices reasonable? For a comparison, (last time I was checked) Moore Wlson's sells filleted tarakihi, butterfish, snapper at $29 per kilo (I think salmon was more), and whole fish from $9-19 per kilo.
I imagine the prices vary, but yesterday the prices per kilo were:
Blue warehou $7
Gurnard $7
Tarakihi $8
Lemonfish $11
Groper Steaks $22
Apart from the Groper, those prices were for cleaned whole fish; with filleting done on request for $3 per fish. So that sounds very very reasonable by comparison.
And they'll definitely be back? Awesome. I'm gonna get me some octopus.
In Soviet Russia, octopus gets you!
Fishtacular. I reckon the Pacific Catch outlets, which improved in quality when Ngai Tahu bought in, have taken a serious dive in quality of late. Its just not looked fresh enough.
