Newtown at night with the Newtownista
About half the Wellingtonista now call Newtown home, so we thought it was about time we did some exploring of the area. Therefore, on this coming Saturday, we're going to be doing a Newtownista Pub Crawl, and you should come with us!
We're going to start on Riddiford St down near the zoo around 7.30pm, and work our way back towards town, aiming to end up at Amigo's for tapas. Most of us haven't been to most of the bars, so we'll be intending to give them all a go-to, even the dodgy ones - but we may change our minds on the night when we look in their doors.
To come along, either show up in that area at that time, get in contact with a cellphone number so we can text you our progress, or follow my twitter account as hopefully I'll remember to update it as we go along. We're going to boldly go where some people have gone before, and it should be a jolly good time.
Gorgeous photo by Dead Possum, yanked from flickr
I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not! It's our starting point, but I think that's one of the ones that we'll decide on the night if we're going to go into or not...
Go Dead Possum!
She'll be chuffed.
That picture is the height of loveliness.
Go Dead Possum indeed.
Thank you for the positive comments.
Apt photo to choose, Jo, since I took it staggering home cheerfully after a night out drinking in Newtown :o)
Do you mean to start at the Zoo bar? (corner of Riddiford and Donald Maclean) Or the bar at the zoo? (was Eva Dixon's. now not, only open some evenings).
The zoo bar is o.k, if you have a posse and aren't planning to stay long. Best by far in Newtown is Bar Edward with it's fabulous selection of local beer.
The party I'd most like to gatecrash is the assyrian men's club upstairs opposite the TAB. What do they all get up to in there?
I meant to start at the Zoo Bar, because I think it's the furtherest one out, but you know, opinions on that have been so mixed that I suppose we'll have to see how it goes. I wish we had a party budget for the Wellingtonista, in which case I would totally have booked the private venue overlooking the monkeys at the actual zoo! But now I'm all about the Assyrian Men's Club now that you've mentioned it! I imagine that they ride around in chariots, curl their beards, and write in cuneiform. Unless that's just the Summerians. Oooh, look at me, remembering stuff I learnt in 7th Grade. When I was 12. 16 years ago. Wahoo! Umm, err, but I think my point was: thanks again for letting me steal that photo!
I'm sorry I missed this - are the results 'reported' anywhere?
They will be when I get around to it, in the meantime check out my photos of the night for brief descriptions.

Are you going to include Zoo Bar? I think you should, it looks lovely.
