Say it ain’t so — the Chocolate Fish to close

Using the won­ders of mod­ern tech­nol­o­gy and the inter­web we here at Wellingon­si­ta Tow­ers have dis­cov­ered that The Choco­late Fish over at Scorch­ing Bay is set to close.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!

Welling­ton’s land­mark Choco­late Fish Cafe is to close at the end of the year, hit by ris­ing rent and coun­cil com­pli­ance costs.

So what can we do?

• Shrug our shoul­ders and let it be
• Vis­it before it goes
• Hope Peter Jack­son and/or local Weta-type buy it
• Get involved in keep­ing it open*

For now all the Welling­ton­ista can say is join up to the “Save the Choco­late Fish” Face­book group and keep par­tic­i­pat­ing. We’re sure that demon­stra­tions will be sched­uled clos­er to the dread­ed clo­sure date with forced cof­fee-drink­ing, Num­bered Stone ™ throw­ing and enraged movie star appear­ances.

* And yes, we all think they’re prob­a­bly mak­ing a for­tune and don’t need our help .. pos­si­bly. But we love hav­ing such a cool place on our doorsteps and don’t need that as an excuse to let it slip away into Welling­ton leg­end.
