Wise old man says: Self Service China

Submitted by stephen clover on Wednesday, 23 Jul 2008.

(actually I'm not sure that he does, but that's another story.)

The guy at the CHINA outlet in the Courtenay Central complex has twice claimed to me that his BBQ pork is the best in town.

The results after the jump!

Imagine my surprise: he is right! It's sweet, tender, succulent, and in a pleasant twist -- vermilion-coloured at its extremities rather than the traditional crimson.

The BBQ Pork Noodle Soup that it comes in is pretty good, too. Or, you can take it on rice with a delicious gravy.

(Now, if only he would tell me that indeed YES, they are serving the advertised Roast Duck Noodle Soup instead of being "right out of duck").

That's where I had a cold something that was labelled as chicken but was actually tofu that tasted like old socks. Perhaps this will restore China to my affections...will have to try it.

I had the Beef Ho Fan there on Sunday and was very impressed. I usually avoid this food court, but now I'll have to go back to try the pork.

CHINA's BBQ pork is awesome! What impressed me was that the pork was obviously marinated. Other inferior BBQ pork just seems to be painted with some pink crap.

CHINA's version of it was succulent and slightly sweet, served on steamed rice with bokchoy.

It seems far too good to come from a food court! Highly recommended.

Oh, I was looking at this place yesterday and I think the name is China Chow (or CHINA CHOW).

Not to be confused with Chow.
