Wellington’s landmark Chocolate Fish Cafe is to close at the end of the year, hit by rising rent and council compliance costs.

So what can we do?

  • Shrug our shoulders and let it be
  • Visit before it goes
  • Hope Peter Jackson and/or local Weta-type buy it
  • Get involved in keeping it open*

For now all the Wellingtonista can say is join up to the “Save the Chocolate Fish” Facebook group and keep participating. We’re sure that demonstrations will be scheduled closer to the dreaded closure date with forced coffee-drinking, Numbered Stone ™ throwing and enraged movie star appearances.

* And yes, we all think they’re probably making a fortune and don’t need our help .. possibly. But we love having such a cool place on our doorsteps and don’t need that as an excuse to let it slip away into Wellington legend.
