Wel­ling­ton may be the Coolest Little Cap­it­al in the World, but it would­n’t be the cap­it­al without Par­lia­ment.

The Bee­hive has uncool net cur­tains. Being a build­ing from the ’70s, this is prob­ably not sur­pris­ing. But this is one thing you can dis­cov­er when Par­lia­ment has its annu­al open day this Sunday, 7 Novem­ber.

A day of fam­ily fun is planned for vis­it­ors, includ­ing:

  • The oppor­tun­ity to sit in the Prime Min­ister­’s car. No fart­ing plz.
  • The link under Bowen Street will be open, so you’ll be able to walk all the way from the corner of Wil­lis and Boul­cott without cross­ing the road once.
  • The Nation­al Crisis Man­age­ment Centre, deep in the bowels of the Bee­hive, will open, so you can reen­act the morn­ing of 4/9 and run around shout­ing “OMG! Christ­ch­urch is a‑crumblin’ and I don’t know what to doooo!”
  • “Inter­act­ive activ­it­ies”. I’m not sure what exactly this means, but would­n’t it be ace if, for the day, the pub­lic were allowed to toot from the @johnkeypm account?
  • And Bel­lamy’s will be open, so there will be cake.
