Welling­ton may be the Coolest Lit­tle Cap­i­tal in the World, but it would­n’t be the cap­i­tal with­out Par­lia­ment.

The Bee­hive has uncool net cur­tains. Being a build­ing from the ’70s, this is prob­a­bly not sur­pris­ing. But this is one thing you can dis­cov­er when Par­lia­ment has its annu­al open day this Sun­day, 7 Novem­ber.

A day of fam­i­ly fun is planned for vis­i­tors, includ­ing:

  • The oppor­tu­ni­ty to sit in the Prime Min­is­ter’s car. No fart­ing plz.
  • The link under Bowen Street will be open, so you’ll be able to walk all the way from the cor­ner of Willis and Boul­cott with­out cross­ing the road once.
  • The Nation­al Cri­sis Man­age­ment Cen­tre, deep in the bow­els of the Bee­hive, will open, so you can reen­act the morn­ing of 4/9 and run around shout­ing “OMG! Christchurch is a‑crumblin’ and I don’t know what to doooo!”
  • “Inter­ac­tive activ­i­ties”. I’m not sure what exact­ly this means, but would­n’t it be ace if, for the day, the pub­lic were allowed to toot from the @johnkeypm account?
  • And Bel­lamy’s will be open, so there will be cake.
