Wellington may be the Coolest Little Capital in the World, but it wouldn’t be the capital without Parliament.

The Beehive has uncool net curtains. Being a building from the ’70s, this is probably not surprising. But this is one thing you can discover when Parliament has its annual open day this Sunday, 7 November.

A day of family fun is planned for visitors, including:

  • The opportunity to sit in the Prime Minister’s car. No farting plz.
  • The link under Bowen Street will be open, so you’ll be able to walk all the way from the corner of Willis and Boulcott without crossing the road once.
  • The National Crisis Management Centre, deep in the bowels of the Beehive, will open, so you can reenact the morning of 4/9 and run around shouting “OMG! Christchurch is a-crumblin’ and I don’t know what to doooo!”
  • “Interactive activities”. I’m not sure what exactly this means, but wouldn’t it be ace if, for the day, the public were allowed to toot from the @johnkeypm account?
  • And Bellamy’s will be open, so there will be cake.
