I am a massive fan of early shoegaze like Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, and really anything with that ethereal, dreamlike quality that transports you from your
bedroom or local venue into the clouds.

For this reason I was extremely excited to discover the music of Baldleaf, self described “5 chip 1 fish”, and their angelic, echoey approach to alternative rock.

The band has a nuanced and diverse range of sounds (that can be heard on Spotify and Bandcamp) which I did wonder if they could reproduce in a live environment. But not to worry, when I saw them live at San Fran they provided an even more raucous and exuberant brand of rock than I was perhaps expecting from their recorded material, with irresistible energy, impressive guitar and strong vocals.

They’ve got a fantastic repertoire of introspective and classically shoegazey songs such as “The leaves talk to me”, “Thousand lies”, and “Alex G”, which leaves no question as to its inspiration.

Baldleaf cross the line between music to get you through a breakup or ponder life while it’s cold and raining outside, to a hectic Friday night with friends, a gig, a party and cheap pints.
