Review: Triple Double Trouble

Triple Dou­ble Trou­ble is a hilar­i­ous and engag­ing show,  and tru­ly made us care about the char­ac­ters. With a rotat­ing cast of dou­bles — today’s show is made up of Jonathan Man­de­no & Thomas Bauer, Sarah Ashill & Tony Yuile — each night gives you some­thing dif­fer­ent.

Dur­ing our show, each set of dou­bles mash­es up their names into some­thing endear­ing, giv­ing the audi­ence a won­der­ful feel­ing that the two are con­nect­ed and have much expe­ri­ence work­ing with each oth­er.

Using time jumps and embody­ing dif­fer­ent char­ac­ters, the audi­ence gets to see a whole rich sto­ry with each pair. We watch as a fif­teen year long flat­mate sit­u­a­tion turns into a chick­en-filled mar­riage — a hilar­i­ous relief after the first act fol­lowed an online dat­ing sit­u­a­tion that went from bad to worse.

The impro­vis­ers are won­der­ful, and we love watch­ing them embody each of the char­ac­ters, build­ing from what their scene mate has offered. An inti­mate venue is anoth­er piece of the puz­zle, allow­ing for a mean­ing­ful close-up expe­ri­ence.
