From the ONYA Awards that recognise the best in websites, to their championing of Mix & Mash and open data, to the Webstock conference that makes us all better people, and the fun Webstock Mini events, a web without Webstock’s influence would be a terrible web indeed.

The mysterious author of Weird in Wellington gets out and about with his iPhone and takes pictures of weird things on the streets of Wellington. They might be the sort of thing you or I might normally pass by, but WiW has an eye for the unusual, posting them on his Tumblr blog with a few choice words. A blog that both entertains and inspires.

Wait a second, we’re nominating a person who doesn’t have a website in this category? Darn right we are! Richard doesn’t have the easiest job in the world as a spokesperson for the Wellington City Council. What we admire about him is that instead of sitting back and occasionally issuing press releases, he very actively participates in the online world, coming to where the people are at to answer questions and clear up misconceptions, not just on the Wellingtonista but on other blogs as well. All public relations people should aspire to Richard’s open communication style, and he is the perfect example of You’re Doing It Right on the internet.
Erm best contribution to the internet FROM Wellington. What exactly does that mean? Best contribution to the internet from a Wellingtonian? A website ABOUT Wellington? The street and city thing looks more about Auckland, most of the pictures are in Auckland’s CBD. Not surprising given that the author is . . . an Aucklander.
I am an Aucklander but have spent my life living in many places in NZ including Nelson, Dargaville, Dunedin and…um, Wellington. I spent 14 months in Wellington, went to Tawhai primary and Dad was minister at Stokes Valley Methodist. Not to mention spending 2 days of each week of the last three and a half years in Wellington …:)

We like to mix it up in this category, heck we even have a guy without his own personal web presence! Also if you click on the link to Wallace’s site you will see that it leads to his Welly stuff and I think it is pretty choice. Lets not get all ‘can’t we get someone who looks a bit more like a Wellingtonian’ on it… 😉
I took it as content being “from Wellington”. A chunk of Wallace’s content comes “from Wellington” …unless there’s a bucket fountain in Auckland????
Besides that, my idea of Wellingtonians are people (not just born and bred Wellians) who’ve been everywhere they want, done everything they can, and still come back to Welly to share all the love, wonder and knowledge they’ve found about the world. What I know of Wallace’s (albeit public) persona, he epitomises that, making him pretty darn Wellingtonian in my eyes.
