Mur­ray Ball’s car­toon strip about farm life and a dog named Dog ran every day in the Even­ing Post for nearly 20 years. In fact, in 1987, Footrot Flats: A Dog’s Tail Tale, cowrit­ten by cre­at­or Mur­ray Ball and Mul­doon’s best friend/Domin­ion Post/Phoenix Found­a­tion fath­er car­toon­ist Tom Scott, was New Zeal­and’s first full-length anim­ated movie (first and only?).

That, of course was 25 years ago. Luck­ily, people like anniversar­ies like that, so A Dog’s Tale is being rereleased, all digit­ally remastered and shiny and new. You know what else people like? The Wel­ling­ton SPCA, who care for over 5,000 anim­als each year at their anim­al centres loc­ated in New­town and Waik­an­ae. Would­n’t it be great if you could watch the movie AND sup­port the SPCA at the same time?
