Mur­ray Bal­l’s car­toon strip about farm life and a dog named Dog ran every day in the Evening Post for near­ly 20 years. In fact, in 1987, Footrot Flats: A Dog’s Tail Tale, cowrit­ten by cre­ator Mur­ray Ball and Mul­doon’s best friend/Domin­ion Post/Phoenix Foun­da­tion father car­toon­ist Tom Scott, was New Zealand’s first full-length ani­mat­ed movie (first and only?).

That, of course was 25 years ago. Luck­i­ly, peo­ple like anniver­saries like that, so A Dog’s Tale is being rere­leased, all dig­i­tal­ly remas­tered and shiny and new. You know what else peo­ple like? The Welling­ton SPCA, who care for over 5,000 ani­mals each year at their ani­mal cen­tres locat­ed in New­town and Waikanae. Would­n’t it be great if you could watch the movie AND sup­port the SPCA at the same time?

A Dog’s Tail fea­tures the voic­es of New Zealand’s top comics includ­ing John Clarke and Bil­ly T James, and an award-win­ning sound­track by Dave Dob­byn.
