We’ve pro­vid­ed a set of ques­tions for the may­oral and coun­cil­lor can­di­dates to answer. First 25 words to an answer get post­ed. Check our 2013 Elec­tion cov­er­age for all respons­es as they come in.

When we con­tact­ed can­di­dates with our ques­tions, we asked them to email a spe­cif­ic email address that all the ‘ista could access so that answers could be post­ed faster. This can­di­date did­n’t use that email address. Hence the late post­ing.

Ques­tion 1: Many home­less peo­ple are psy­chi­atric sur­vivors, and at risk, they should be sup­port­ed by wel­fare agen­cies and offered rehous­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties. Dis­cour­age beg­gars with a bylaw.

Ques­tion 2: As an alter­na­tive to mak­ing it legal to cycle on car roofs, get cars out of the inner city by build­ing a light rail link.

Ques­tion 3: Inner city rail link and invest more in Kenepu­ru hos­pi­tal so increased emer­gency, surgery and out­pa­tient ser­vices are avail­able to the north and west pop­u­la­tions.

 Ques­tion 4:  But Welling­ton is so much more, the arts cap­i­tal of New Zealand, has West­pac Sta­di­um, mag­i­cal har­bours, beau­ti­ful peo­ple and places to be and see.

Ques­tion 5: Pro­mote Welling­ton as the inno­v­a­tive IT and Edu­ca­tion cap­i­tal and num­ber one venue for Inter­na­tion­al acts. Think, plan act and build region­al­ly, not just city­wide.

Ques­tion 6: Needs more smiles, hap­py kids of all ages, pow­er walk­ing grannies, music in the streets. Less som­bre faces, bor­ing suits and iphone star­ing in pub­lic

Ques­tion 7: I’d make the whole inner-city wifi hot. Keep every pre­cious inch of green­space, plant more trees, more cre­ative com­mu­ni­ty edu­ca­tion, dance, wheels and board­sport oppor­tu­ni­ties

Ques­tion 8: Get Savvy! Teach civic issues, law, mon­ey man­age­ment in schools. Pro­vide manned voting/postal booths on the streets. I did this in Kapi­ti with amaz­ing results.

Ques­tion 9:  Get the fam­i­ly secure and safe, be the brave Mum­my, 2hr med­ical oxy­gen bot­tle. I don’t need it, but it could save some­one else’s life.

Ques­tion 10: In Kapi­ti we should vote for change. We des­per­ate­ly need to clean out a Coun­cil that is com­plete­ly bro­ken. If peo­ple don’t vote,they shouldn’t com­plain
