Enamel is a small print magazine edited by new Wellingtonian Emma Barnes. Its first issue contains work from writers based in Wellington, other places in New Zealand and all around the world. In this issue you’ll see writing from: Johanna Aitchison, recent Randell Cottage writer in residence Jennifer Compton, Miriam Barr and Tim Jones as well as other new and established writers. It also includes art by artists from New Zealand, Australia and the U.S.A.
Largely an experiment in creating a literary magazine, Enamel seeks to become an ongoing part of the literary scene in New Zealand. Enamel is printed each year in March. Submissions are always open. Enamel is especially open to experimental work but considers anything. You can visit the blog at http://enamelmag.blogspot.com, email your submissions through to enamel.editor@gmail.com or buy it from Trade Me.
Have you seen Craig Osborne Wallace? He’s been missing since March 1.
He was last seen at Chaffer’s Marina area on Sunday 1 March, dressed in a red jacket and blue and green horizontally striped polo shirt.
Anyone with any information should contact Wellington Police CIB on 0800 TIPOFF (0800 847 633) or the Wellington Central Police Station on 04 381 2000

The Newtown Festival is happening again, and you can find out more about it on their official website.. I am personally most looking forward the Newtown Festival Street Fair on March 8 – just a warning – it’ll shut down most roads in the area. I remember last year I’d had a pretty horrible experience having to be in the Viaduct in Auckland, and then I flew home hungover, lay on my bed, and could hear my band – the Phoenix Foundation playing just down the road in my suburb. <3
Some of us Wellingtonistas make no bones about that fact that we suffer from a variety of mental illnesses, which is why we’re always pleased to support people who are working to support the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. So we were really encouraged when we heard from Pete Barton:
I am currently running a community project to raise awareness of depression and mental illness in New Zealand and I would like to promote a charity movie night on Tuesday 10th March.
Lars and the Real Girl will be screened at the Paramount Cinema, Courtney Place at 6.00 pm. I have some great spot and raffle prizes to give away including a $600 interislander ferry voucher.
Ticket price is $20.00 which enters ticket holders into spot prize draw to win an interislander voucher. There are a number of other great prizes to be won from Bunnings, Shoe Clinic Wellington, Bike Barn Wellington, Reading Cinemas, Ben Lind Massage Therapy and Karori Sanctuary.
Proceeds from the evening will go directly to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

You will of course remember how last year the Phoenix Foundation’s gig in Frank Kitts Park was voted Best Live Performance at the TAWAs? Well this year, the Starry Nights concert on February 19 (during Webstock!) will feature the magnificant Fur Patrol, and of course since Miss Ratpony is such a fan, we have this gif as a gift for you:
If you’re already on Twitter, we imagine that you already know that the Wellingtonista has a twitter stream.
Well now like a moth to a flame, the Masked Barfly has decided to get in on the action with its own brand of insider gossip. If that’s your thing, follow the fly!
We see that there are ‘For Lease’ signs in the window of Chilli Jam on Adelaide Road, and that their website is no longer existing. Anyone know anything more about it?
The Wellington City Council would like to hear from you tonight. Like, seriously. According to their ads in the paper, they even want you to stop watching Coronation Street long enough to call them up and tell them what you think about them. Or to be specifically quoting their old news story (one of the things I would complain about first would be how hard it is to find current news on their site):
Do you have views on the city’s future? Then call our hotline, talk to the Mayor or Councillors and tell them what you think. Wellington City Council is running the hotline … 7.00pm to 9.00pm – phone (04) 801 4205) to canvas views from residents about what they value about the city, what level services should be funded and what services could be reduced.
As always, we have some suggestions:
What would you say if you called? And also, you’re going to call, right?
There’s less than a month to go now until the greatest conference ever, and since the Wellingtonista is always keen to show off the best parts of our city, we made a Beginner’s Guide to Wellington for those who are coming in for it from out of town. Even if you live here, there might be something of interest on the list for you, so do have a read, and when you see us at all those places, do feel free to say hi and buy us drinks.
