Keeping warm with carb-on-carb
It’s winter, which means the Wellingtonista’s thoughts turn to warming food to warm ourselves up. What’s more warming than the lovely hug of carbohydrates? The double hug of at least two kinds of carbs at once! With that in mind, here are some of our favourite carb-on-carb experiences in Wellington:
- Mac’n cheese sliders at Pickle. Dense pasta with thick cheese sauce, breaded, fried and put into a bun. Aww yeah.
- The Rosa Maria pizza at Scopa – potato and rosemary on pizza, especially great when doused liberally with chili oil.
- Potatoes fried in lard and lemon at Nikau Cafe, ordered with whatever other vegetable they have on (especially if it’s a root like parsnip or Jerusalem artichoke), and getting their excellent baguette and butter on the side.
Our other winter tip would be to book yourself a private spa at Kilbirne Aquatic Centre. Please don’t eat while you’re in there though, it’s a public space.
Now it’s your turn – what are your favourite carbs around town? Is there anywhere we could order a carb-on-carb carbonara?
The mashed potato scones at CGR Merchants!
On the 4th of July Chicago Bar was offering hot dogs and a Budweiser for $5, but no veggie dogs! So, the very kind manager made us French-fry hot dogs. It was glorious carb-on-carb action!
