Eat and eat and eat: win a voucher for Elements Cafe
We already told you how excited we are about the upcoming Wellington on a Plate festival, and now we’re even more excited to announce that we’re working with Positively Wellington Tourism to help you get the most out of the event. Yes, that’s right, you! Over the next five weeks, we’re going to be giving away one $100 voucher each week to one of five different restaurants participating in Wellington on a Plate. That’s some serious deliciousness to be had right there!
First up, we have a voucher for Elements Cafe. Elements is a frequent nominee in our TAWAs for Best Surburban Venue, and with menu items like chargrilled lamb loin, lamb & porcini pie served with truffle mash on the dinner menu, it’s not hard to see why. The service is warm and friendly, the setting in an old butcher’s shop is lovely and the food is extremely tasty. It’s well worth a trip out to Lyall Bay either for brunch, dinner or their cooking classes. As part of Wellington on a Plate, Elements are offering a $35 two-course lunch, or a $40 three-course dinner, including a glass of wine. Yum!
So now, how do you win? Because it’s the first week, we’ll start out nice and easy. Simply leave us a comment by Tuesday 20th telling us what the best plate of food you’ve had in Wellington recently has been, and you’ll be in the draw. We’ll choose an entry at random next Wednesday, and announce the winner and also the name of the next restaurant prize. Feel free to ask us to be your date if you win…
Hmm… way too many to choose from, but lately I’ve been hooked on salmon onigiri from Midori Sushi on Willis St and Kita-Q in Lambton Square!
Perhaps Ernesto’s poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise on homemade hashbrowns? Nom.
The beef noodle salad with spring rolls in it at 88!! It’s my favourite meal there. I was overseas all last year and when my friend took me there for dinner a couple of weeks ago I knew to order it without even looking at the menu 🙂
The unassuming satay chicken noodle soup at R & S on cuba street is consistently delicious and cheap. you have to eat in though – singing malaysian waiters, roti for dipping, and plenty of lemon juice and chilli sauce on the table. Oooh yeah.
Ernesto’s “Big Breakfast” is my fave at the mo, yummy yummy brunch served until 3pm!
Regi’s Mushrooms on Toast at Duke Carvell’s Swan Lane Emporium! Oh yes!
The chilli fish at China Delight on Blair St.
Actually everything at China Delight on Blair St – it totally rocks.
It sounds boring but – the baguettes at Milk Crate are absolutely fantastic, with the right balance of creaminess and crunch and awesome flavours. I think I like the smoked chicken and avocado and something peculiarly spicy the best… or the ham and dijon and awesomely awesome cheddar? Anyway, the bread is perfect and totally makes the sandwich, crisp and soft at the same time, and flavoursome to compliment the filling but not overpower.
Delicious baguette YES PLEASE.
Bean quesidillas and curly fries at Sweet Mother’s after the Harbour Capital half marathon a couple of weeks ago. I was starving!
The new dinner menu at Duke Carvell’s is quite divine- I particularly enjoyed the lamb and prune tagine.
The vege big breakfast at Dixon Street Deli! Gluten free toast at no extra charge!
The best meal I had in Wellington was at Shed 5 and it was a steak. Best meal ever, but I have to qualify that it was at a open bar work function and much merriment and fellowship was being had so it is distinctly possible that anything I ate would have tasted like the best meal ever!
On these cold days, I’m really enjoying toasted ginger bread with melted butter at Mojo on Bond Street. A great snack to go with my coffee.
The Library Cafe and Bar on Courtney Place has a delicious dessert tasting platter for two!…. or for one :p
‘Eggs Newtown’ @ Pranah Cafe is amazing. Best weekend breakfast in Wellington!
I’ve been on the “Austerity Measures” for the last month (all the rage in Europe darling), so, of late, my fine dining experiences have been somewhat modest.
The best plate of food I have had recently in Wellington was, in fact, the many plates presented in the style of Yum Cha, at the Majestic Cuisine on Courtenay Place.
Fish tacos, Sweet Mothers Kitchen. Don’t even look at the menu these days. Why would you?
Poached eggs and bacon at Floriditas
The Foie Gras Brulee at Arbitrageur is to die for. Smooth and creamy foie gras (yeah I know it is cruel and unkind and bad to eat foie gras) with a brulee sugar lid. Mmmmmmm
Honestly – pretty much anything at Hazel… SO GOOD! And, during winter, Mond – Wed ( I think) all mains are $18.90. Amazing. I’m actually going there tonight…
Vegetarian Mee Goreng at KK Malaysian. Soooooo yum!
Easily the quiche they serve at Monterrey, the new bar in Newtown!
Simple but tasty mozzarella sandwich at Cafe Italiano on Cuba Street. Yum.
The exquisite lamb dish at Zibibbo, it was heavenly!
The “Loft Platter” at Wine Loft!
Delicious finger foods with a great wine.
The Pad Thai at The Original Thai restaurant… so good for a cold day…
Had quite a good chicken burger at Arizona – and looking forward to trying a few of the burgers in the Wellington on a Plate competition too 🙂
