Wellington's best hip hop bar....NOT
Is it just me or does a removal truck being loaded up with boxes of liquor outside a bar that billed itself as "Wellington's best hip hop bar" suggest that the bar wasn't quite as good as it would have liked to have thought, and is now in fact in receivership?
Or is it actually just moving to a new location?
I think that's what I95 called itself: I never actually visited. It's certainly been looking a bit forlorn recently, so it looks like the curse of the Oaks Triangle strikes again.
Actually, for those who appreciate such things, where is Wellington's best hip-hop bar? Vintage has gone very much that way recently.
Is Vintage what was previously Monkey Bar? As for i95, I think it has been closed for some time.
vintage is indeed what was formerly Monkey Bar, what was formerly Cell Bar.
i95 sucked. good riddance.
So - not having been there myself - has Vintage moved away from their old clientelle, towards their new? Or is it a mash-up of both: gay hip-hop?
I am thinking mash-up myself.
Definetly mash up, but not sure about gay and hiphop? Last time I was there, it was more like reggae and hiphop mash up. Like a mash up of Havana and Good Luck.
Speaking of mash ups, I95 seemed to be a cross between the Lab and Cyotes, hehe.
No, Vintage isn't a gay bar at all. Monkey Bar became one towards the end, but when it re-opened as Vintage it took a very different tack. It had Asian-themed decor, food and cocktails, but musically was mostly old-school hip-hop. Lately it seems to have emphasised the hip-hop more, but earlier in the evenings it still seems to have a cocktail bar vibe, so it's a bit more like Good Luck.

i95??
