Urban Harvest is a Wellington-based company that delivers locally grown produce, meat and other culinary delights. For the festive season, they’ve branched out into Christmas hampers, and have opened a pop-up shop in their Mt Victoria headquarters (29 Hania St) for those who like to get up close with their yuletide nomz.

The Wellingtonista were invited along to the launch at the shop, complete with food by Al Brown and chef Hayden Scott. Both Al Brown and Urban Harvest creator Jo Freeman spoke enthusiastically about their love of fresh, seasonal food.

I was particularly taken by one of the hamper items – popcorn on the cob. It was the instant sight of seeing the familiar dried popcorn kernels still on a cob of corn that made me realise that, yeah, it comes from a plant, not the heat-lamp bin at a movie theatre.

Tom A and I made a video report of the launch, with plenty of delicious sights and sounds. (If the embedded version doesn’t play on your mobile device – here it is on Vimeo)
