Urban Har­vest is a Welling­ton-based com­pa­ny that deliv­ers local­ly grown pro­duce, meat and oth­er culi­nary delights. For the fes­tive sea­son, they’ve branched out into Christ­mas ham­pers, and have opened a pop-up shop in their Mt Vic­to­ria head­quar­ters (29 Hania St) for those who like to get up close with their yule­tide nomz.

The Welling­ton­ista were invit­ed along to the launch at the shop, com­plete with food by Al Brown and chef Hay­den Scott. Both Al Brown and Urban Har­vest cre­ator Jo Free­man spoke enthu­si­as­ti­cal­ly about their love of fresh, sea­son­al food.

I was par­tic­u­lar­ly tak­en by one of the ham­per items — pop­corn on the cob. It was the instant sight of see­ing the famil­iar dried pop­corn ker­nels still on a cob of corn that made me realise that, yeah, it comes from a plant, not the heat-lamp bin at a movie the­atre.
