I’m Tane Wood­ley, Green par­ty can­di­date for Ohar­iu. I want a pint of choco­late porter. Also, a fair­er soci­ety, a clean­er envi­ron­ment and a smarter econ­o­my.

  1. What makes you dif­fer­ent?

I’m a human, that makes me dif­fer­ent to every­one. I am a sol­dier in the Greens, so I am fair­ly rare; green on the inside and green on the out­side.

  1. What do you love or hate most about Welling­ton

I love Welling­ton on a good day, it real­ly is as good as adver­tised, pos­si­bly bet­ter. I hate the spring winds that kill my plum blos­soms and toma­to plants.

We have a wealth gap after 30 years of neolib­er­al­ism. More tax­a­tion on the wealthy leaves them still wealthy, but gives every­one else more oppor­tu­ni­ty to par­tic­i­pate mean­ing­ful­ly in soci­ety.

Green invest­ment in research and devel­op­ment, in ICT and in renew­able ener­gy will help busi­ness­es to devel­op new prod­ucts and ser­vices to sell, also to retain staff and grow.

That fem­i­nism is a more real and valid thing than I gave it cred­it for. That ‘equal pay for women’ was a good start, but it was only a start.

I would imple­ment sin­gle-trans­fer­able vot­ing for elec­torate votes, so we have real con­tests for elec­torates. To encour­age par­tic­i­pa­tion, I’d increase resources for the Elec­toral Com­mis­sion to bet­ter edu­cate and mar­ket.

12. Will you sup­port a full enquiry into #Dirty­Pol­i­tics? Will they prac­tice clean pol­i­tics for  them­selves and their par­ties? — Bevan­M­c­Cabe

Not an inquiry, but a Roy­al Com­mis­sion is need­ed, to ful­ly inves­ti­gate and to ensure the gov­ern­ment of the day does­n’t inter­fere.  Will I sup­port this?  Hell yeah!

13. What’s your per­son­al his­to­ry of liv­ing in Welling­ton?

Grew up in the Hutt, bloody won­der­ful place. Left for the Army at 18, post­ed to Tren­tham from 1996–8, then lived in Mira­mar and John­sonville since 2003.

14. What pol­i­cy of your par­ty do you think will have the most impact on Welling­ton?

Our cli­mate change pol­i­cy, and sub­se­quent emis­sion reduc­tion. Because wors­en­ing weath­er and sea lev­el rise will dev­as­tate Welling­ton. Emis­sion reduc­tions in NZ, com­bined with inter­na­tion­al efforts, will great­ly ben­e­fit Welling­ton.

15. Do you gen­uine­ly believe you have a chance at win­ning the seat you’re con­test­ing, or is this more of a par­ty cam­paign?

Most def­i­nite­ly a par­ty cam­paign.  As an MMP par­ty, the Greens focus on the par­ty vote, and the elec­torate vote is not some­thing we chase. So please, par­ty vote Green…
