Musi­cals aren’t every­one’s cup of tea. But if said musi­cal is set in Welling­ton and involves the assas­si­na­tions of Glee type char­ac­ters it’s hard not to want to know more.

Joshua Hop­ton Stew­art has writ­ten a hilar­i­ous piece of musi­cal the­atre based on his team’s entry in the 2010 V48Hour Short Film Com­pe­ti­tion, Soci­ety Slump Super­stars. 

Cue reces­sion-hit New Zealand with a Prime Min­is­ter who wants his cit­i­zens’ mood to be improved (you can tell it’s fic­tion­al already). When music plays, the peo­ple dance and sing. But not with joy because every waver­ing note, wrong lyric or shab­by foot­work could be their demise. Every­one lives a real life musical…but with seri­ous con­se­quences.

Soci­ety Slump Super­stars is the­atre com­pa­ny Fresh­Dada’s debut pro­duc­tion and will be per­formed at BATS The­atre 8pm, 10 — 14 April, 2012. With a cast of 20 ridicu­lous­ly enthu­si­as­tic singers and per­form­ers, led by Direc­tor Joshua Stew­art and Chore­o­g­ra­ph­er Sam Mcleod (Bloody Broad­way 2) it is sure to go down a treat.
