1. Ensur­ing that the dust­bowl that is Man­ners Mall is hosed down on the few dry days would be a nice start. Sand storms do not make for hap­py Welling­to­ni­ans.

   Can we also get some changes in the types of bricks that the coun­cil insists on installing every­where? Slick bricks + rainy days = Cuba Mall ankle twist­ing dan­ger zone. A lit­tle grip please.

2. Please ensure that the new metlink trains can car­ry bikes. Bike lock­ers at $20 p/a don’t work when you have to cycle at both ends of the train jour­ney. I expect bet­ter!

3. Make sure any spend­ing is with­in the cur­rent bud­get. My rates bill is over a hun­dred bucks a week as it is. That’s before I start pay­ing my mort­gage.

4. Bik­ing:

   Agree with Mar­tin on increas­ing bike quo­tas on trains beyond 2.

   Also, pub­lic trans­port to places where moun­tain bike parks have been estab­lished, such as Wainuioma­ta and Karori (Makara) is some­what under­mined by the fact busses don’t car­ry bikes. What’s the solu­tion here?

   I believe Celia has already promised progress a safe bike lane from Welling­ton to Low­er Hutt, so I show my sup­port for that. The cur­rent lane along SH2 has gaps near Petone and is very awk­ward to find near Kai­wharawhara.

   Last­ly, hav­ing “Bike Box­es” on roads (where idle bik­ers can sit on roads at red traf­fic lights, in clear view of cars), is an excel­lent safe­ty fea­ture that should be pro­gres­sive­ly estab­lished.

6. No more mon­ey for the aquarium/cafe/weird box thing on the south coast. Or any oth­er ven­tures that sell them­selves as tourist ameni­ties and over­look the impact they will have on Welling­ton’s pre­cious local envi­ron­ment and com­mu­ni­ties.

8. Con­grat­u­la­tions Celia and thank god for STV. Now, please reduce the Mt Vic tun­nel to one lane — with a pass­ing bay in the mid­dle — that would sort the traf­fic prob­lems and attract tourists.

10. Um, Jon­ny, what? I’m pret­ty much against any new roads, and total­ly sup­port new pub­lic trans­port ini­tia­tives instead of cater­ing to cars, but I fail to see how reduc­ing the Mt Vic tun­nel to one lane would cut down traf­fic. Or attract tourists, for that mat­ter.

16. I watched the so-called “splat­ter­gate” film and can report the fol­low­ing:

    - It was direct­ed by Richard Cur­tis for the Britsh “10:10” cam­paign.
    — It revolves around a creepy and some­what taste­less joke.
    — It has noth­ing to do with the Green Par­ty of New Zealand.
    — It has noth­ing to do with Celia Wade-Brown.

    It seems a mis­guid­ed attempt­ed by the 10:10 cam­paign and Richard Cur­tis to be hilar­i­ous and thought-pro­vok­ing but mis­er­ably fail­ing.

    I’m real­ly strug­gling to see any con­nec­tion with Celia Wade-Brown, unless every­one in the world who is involved with “green” issues is some­how (how?) mys­te­ri­ous­ly con­nect­ed. Ooh — con­spir­a­cy!

    Celia WB is a mem­ber of 350.org a- an organ­i­sa­tion that wish­es to reduce CO2 lev­els to pre-indus­tri­al lev­els.

    The only way to achieve this is by the exter­mi­na­tion of a large per­cent­age of the world’s pop­u­la­tion.

    Of course, I realise that most Green’s don’t under­stand this basic fact, think­ing that we can dri­ve an indus­tri­al nation on petuli oil and hen­na.

    How­ev­er, I would expect politi­cian’s to have a bit more under­stand­ing, (he said tongue in cheek)

    Robyn, I think I need to explain this.

    Your remark com­plete­ly epit­o­mis­es the atti­tude shown in the 10–10 video. I have shown to you the slight­est HINT that I might not accept your eco-solu­tions, and it is the end. I am brand­ed a denier, and the con­ver­sa­tion ends.

    This is not God­win’s law. God­win stat­ed that all argu­ments ENDED in com­par­ison’s with nazism. am not end­ing it, I am start­ing it.

    What I see in the green move­ment is COMPLETE INTOLERANCE with any oth­er views oth­er than your own. This is why we call you econazies, water­mel­ons, what­ev­er.

    I do actu­al­ly under­stand the need to pro­tect the envi­ron­ment.
