The cupboards are bare
The Wellingtonista is not just about bringing the snark to the deserving. Sometimes we drop the cynical worn-out hipster thing to bring food to the deserving. We need to tell you that the Downtown Community Ministry food bank is just about out of food. Unfortunately, more people need their help than ever before.
Yesterday their director Stephanie McIntyre said:
In our foodbank, there are only 2 cans of tuna left, 3 cans of beetroot, 1 can of corn, a few spreads and boxes of Weetbix, and some baked beans and canned tomato. There’s no tinned fruit, meat or other fish. There’s no soup, packet meals, tea and coffee or even toilet paper.
If you would like to donate to them, their number is 384 7699. They would love to hear from you.
EDIT: or donate to them directly through Give A Little using your credit card.
Thanks for the heads-up 🙂
Update: I popped into the Chaffers New World just now and dumped a bunch of groceries into the DCM food bank donation bin. There was a modest pile there already, but it was by no means full. A tin of this, a packet of that — even one little thing from a few people would soon fill that bin up.
According to Feedburner, we have 834 followers, and 2500+ on Twitter. So let’s see if donations today can reach at least $1000. Seriously, the DCM do incredibly important work, let’s all give a little.
Fuck Wellingtonista readers are awesome. With the $100 I’m going to put in on payday, we’re over $1000 already. But don’t let’s stop there. Every little bit helps.
this is a great cause. with christchurch soaking up money place doing important work like the DCM are losing funding.
our household has been giving money to DCM ever since the awards a few years back, and we increased it after the quake.
i challenge you aging cynical hipsters to do the same!
