On Wed­nes­day night, Mix & Mash was launched at the City Gal­lery, ask­ing people to use data to make new things. Of course, our Tom has been doing that for years, but pain­fully by hand, I believe. That should­n’t put you off enter­ing, rather it should inspire you.

In fact, you should go read the Mix & Mash web­site now, because I’m about to go off on a rant about the City Gal­lery, or more spe­cific­ally, their policy of not allow­ing drinks in their aud­it­or­i­um. Because appar­ently they are Hoyts Cinema or some­thing. Okay, I under­stand why they won’t let red wine be served. I have friends who’d like to have that same rule in their house. And although all the people float­ing around to pro­tect the art works are spooky, I under­stand why they feel the need to keep their eyes on things of value. But there is no art in the aud­it­or­i­um. All there is are uncom­fort­able seats and no inter­net. WHY CAN’T WE DRINK IN THERE? It does­n’t make any sense, and it makes for much less anim­ated even­ings.
