A double dose from the influential and inspiring K Records out of Olympia, Washington. On Wednesday you get a chance to ‘bone up’ on this legendary label thanks to a screening of the 1999 doco: THE SHIELD AROUND THE K: THE STORY OF K RECORDS and on Thursday Mirah (one of K record’s brightest stars) is performing.

The (free) film kicks off on Wednesday at 8pm sharp and profiles the birth and growth of the DIY label whose lo-fi credibility has never been compromised. I’ll let The Jeffery Lewis Band provide a musical synopsis.

Mirah is at once an innovator and a heart-on-sleeve artist whose spectrum runs from folk to disco, with a decade long discography as varied as the colours of a Double Rainbow. Playing Wellington on Thursday with multi-instrumentalist Dave Depper (Norfolk & Western, Jolie Holland) and Rachel Blumberg, who has drummed for The Decemberists, Bright Eyes and M. Ward. We have a double pass to give away – to the first person to name the 2 co – founders of K Records in the comments below.
