WOP: The taste of happy
So, a couple more excursions to restaurants with Wellington on a Plate menus. I’m considering going to the Warehouse and buying a pair of elastic-waisted trackpants for the rest of Wellington on a Plate. Most recently I paid a visit to Cuba Street icon Floriditas and Hippopotamus at the Museum Hotel.
Review: Eight
Monologues have always struck me as exciting things to watch. There is only the performer and the audience. If the audience doesn’t like the performer then it can seem like a very long time sitting in the dark waiting to get back to the bar. If it works then it’s magical. In Eight, there are […]
WOP: let’s hear it for the Floyd
I have clearly timed career moves badly, because in the hungry wait for Wellington on a Plate I was unemployed and spent large parts of the day dreaming about where and what I would eat, but now it’s on, I have a temporary job and it’s not in the CBD. Disaster! However, it turned out […]
WOP: Give me shelter
So, Wellington on a Plate – it’s quite good, yeah? While Joanna is a (deliciously) seasoned pro, this is my first year sampling the culinary delights of the festival of nomz. So I figured I should share my findings. Here are my first two experiences – Martin Bosley’s and Foxglove.
Our movies have gone to the dogs
Remember Footrot Flats? Of course you do. You probably didn’t even need that link, unless you’re a wee little thing or new to the country. Murray Ball’s cartoon strip about farm life and a dog named Dog ran every day in the Evening Post for nearly 20 years. In fact, in 1987, Footrot Flats: A […]
Snow in Cuba
You might not have noticed, but it’s pretty cold in Wellington right now. In fact, let us be the very first people to tell you: it’s snowing in some parts. Woah! Now we have dispensed with the usual sarcasm, please enjoy this beautiful video by Ro Tierney of the snow in Cuba Mall. Snow on […]
WOP: Eating the other cheek
Miss Hungry & Frozen said the other day “I think cheeks are the new shanks”. Reading various Dine menus for Wellington on Plate, they are indeed everywhere. You won’t hear a complaint about that from me. Instead, you get to read about how I had beef cheeks for lunch and then dinner on Thursday. Atlanta […]
WOP: A deluge of dreadfulness at Monsoon Poon
Our mouths have been working overtime this week, with all the Wellington on a Plate action going around. Of course Tuesday had the aborted attempt at Lagerfield and then eating off the regular menu at Fratelli. Tonight we’ve got reviews of Monsoon Poon, Atlanta and Bettys for you, which to sum up were DREADFUL, decent […]
Strike: Elemental
Strike are completing their Downstage Residency with a revisit of Elemental. It’s a “percussive based theatrical stage show” which is funny, breathtaking, and intricate. Murray Hickman, Tim Whitta, Leni Sulusi, and Takumi Motokawa, are joined by newbie Tom Broome. Their team work is so good that it’s difficult to tell that he’s new. The pieces […]
Some Italian jobs
1. The Mediterranean Warehouse in Newtown has undergone some renovations taking out the wall separating the pizzeria from the warehouse, so now there’s an extended deli counter and you dine among the shelves. The price of an individual pizza may have gradually increased $4 over the past couple’o years but now you can get a bowl of […]
