Fringe Festival 2014 – Brooks & Brown in Literally Anything

We sent along intrepid theatre goer and Yarn Celebrity  Tash Barneveld to check out a new Fringe Show by Brooks & Brown. He’s what she thought.   ‘Brooks & Brown are a brand new transTasman duo who have no idea what their show is going to be about.’ Christine Brooks and Rik Brown have worked together only […]

New Zealand Festival

The New Zealand Festival starts with this free event tonight in Civic Square. I’ve heard there will be more dancing than sitting so wear your dancing shoes. Also opening tonight – the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular, Deca Dance, Needles & Opium, and Our Broken Voice, plus the visual art exhibitions. See you there!

Live Leader Board

Here at the Wellingtonista we’re firm faves of Richard Aindow – former editor of Fish Head magazine, and Quiz Master of Wednesday nights at Mighty Mighty – so we were pleasantly surprised to catch him outside the Rogue & Vagabond last night with a group of lycra-clad lit-up young ladies in incandescent costumes. […]

The New Zealand Fringe Festival

The New Zealand Fringe Festival has been going for a week and it’s got just over two more weeks to run. Sadly, I’ve only made it to two shows so far (because moving house) a pathetic effort really, because there are HEAPS. Cabaret, circus, comedy, dance, music, theatre, visual art – there are a lot of […]

‘Nothing to be Done’ but laugh

Comedian Luwita Hana Randhawa does look a little serious below. She looks like someone who probably doesn’t take a lot of nonsense. Someone who would handle a heckler with a dry, sassy quip that would leave everyone wishing they’d thought of such a line, because everyone has those “If only I’d said that” moments. I […]

Let’s all raise our faces skyward in the hope the weather comes to the party this year as the line-up is the right mix of classic, contemporary and fun! Kicking off  THIS Thursday 6 February AT *6:30PM […]

Drumming up support

In Wellington, which continues to be the cultural capital, no matter what Auckland might try to pretend, there are probably a lot of conversations to be had about Boosted, which was set up by the Arts Foundation as a rewards-free Pledgeme, or another tax-deductable Givealittle, except that they take a cut. Nat Torkington’s thoughts might […]

WOAP: what I’ve dined on so far

It’s been a week of eating, and I tell you, I’ve definitely got the meat sweats. I do it for you, gentle reader. Here’s some advice about what you should and shouldn’t be eating over the next week. The burger at The General Practictioner (We already reviewed Parrotdog + La Boca Loca. Based on that, […]

They Who Drink Beer Will Think Beer

So Beervana is done for another year. Many beers were tasted, and some people throughout the city spent some of their weekend nursing their heads. But everyone who attended will surely have a beer that sticks with them, it may be because it changed the way they think about a style, it opened up their […]

What to eat during Wellington on a Plate

We didn’t present you with suggestions for events to book, I know. That’s partly because they all sell out so quickly, but mostly because I think the Dine menus are really the best opportunity to truly sample Wellington’s hospitality. So, with things kicking off tomorrow, and 108 options on offer, where should you go and […]
